- Modified memory management so only about 200k of EMS or disk
space is needed for swapping.
Version 3.0a August 15, 1991
- First version with Wildcat 3.0 compatibility. Complete rewrite.
Version 2.9a May 15, 1991
- fixed the bug that caused UNKNOWN.QWK packets
- speeded up the download scan
- upgraded to new B-Tree Filer routines which are faster
- now gets user record from name in CALLINFO.BBS
- users at *OR* above "netsec" can upload messages from users
other than themselves
- TOMCAT SYSOP local logons now work with single word sysop
names
- messages to SYSOP uploaded through Tomcat now work with
single word sysop names
- changed memory management - now will free up more memory
for PKZIP and PKUNZIP as well as using much larger database
buffers
- syntax of local logons changed in ACTIVITY.LOG so S-Pro! will
work properly
- TomCat! now supports IRQ numbers of 8 and higher
Version 2.9 March 1, 1991
- added support for "net-status" packets for using with
TNet/RNet/QNet
- can now specify individual conference taglines for
outgoing messages
- users can disable the [PER] folder scan in order not
to receive personal mail in closed folders
- wording of ACTIVITY.LOG entry for local logons has been
changed to be consistent with S-Pro!
- on local logons, your daily time limit is replenished if
you log on for the first time in a day (this prevents
your time from being eaten for breakfast by TomCat!)
- XLETTER can now be set to Y to allow use of all 24
standard Wildcat! folders
- added the ability for the user to set the maximum number
of messages per folder, also increased the absolute max
from 200 to 1000
- Tomcat is now DESQview-aware; it will give up time slices
that it doesn't need, allowing other programs to run more
efficiently
- screen blanking no longer takes effect when called from
the command line
- can now specify ALL in TCACCESS.TXT like this:
GREG HEWGILL,ALL
to give unconditional access to all folders.
- can now specify folder ranges in TCACCESS.TXT:
GREG HEWGILL,D-L
or GREG HEWGILL,45-123
or even GREG HEWGILL,A-255
This, of course, works along with individual folder
access:
GREG HEWGILL,D-L,28,44-86
Version 2.5 October 3, 1990
- fixed problems with 'Insufficient memory to allocate page
stack' error
- fixed problems with shelling to an external protocol when
swapping was not used
- activity log is now created if it did not exist
- new auto-logoff prompt consistent with Wildcat! 2.50
- auto-logoff timer disable for local logons
- implemented ^S^C current node number display variable
- handles default protocol of Zmodem properly
Version 2.0 June 25, 1990
- added extended conferences - see the TOMCAT.DOC file for
full details of this support
- changed the index handling so the indices are built in
memory and then written out to disk all at once
- Zmodem is now allowed as an external protocol and will
override TomCat!'s internal Zmodem
- text file packets are now supported
- folder security is now enforced to be consistent with
Wildcat!
- PCBoard @ style variables are optionally filtered from
messages
- comment lines are now allowed in the TOMCAT.CFG file - if
the first character on the line is a semicolon (;) then
the line is ignored
- various prompts and messages have been clarified and made
consistent with Wildcat!
- error messages are now displayed in bright flashing white
and have a five second pause before terminating TomCat!
- time handling has been corrected so that TomCat! no longer
takes away users' time when entering the door just before
an event
- if the user logs off with the [G]oodbye option from within
TomCat!, it will terminate with an errorlevel 60 (whether
you have configured this in Makewild or not)
- the number of messages downloaded in a local packet is now
recorded in the activity log
- personal messages are now scanned before any other folder
is scanned
- a new display file, TCNEWUSR.BBS (or .SCR) will be displayed
when a new TomCat! user (one that is not in the TCUSER.DAT
file) enters the door. This can be used to tell them to
visit the [C]onfiguration menu or something.
- the space bar can be used to abort display files such as
the help screen
- fixed the duplicate character problem with slow computers
and high speed modems
- changed the method of reading the databases, it should be
a lot faster now
- the overlay file is now a separate TOMCAT.OVR file,
it should go in the same directory as TOMCAT.EXE
- TomCat! is now a lot lighter in the tagline department
- when shelling to an external protocol or packer, that
external program now has maximum file handles available
- added default quit/goodbye option
- CALLINFO.BBS is now rewritten when exiting TomCat!
- the message scan is aborted after scanning the first folder
that overflows the caller's total message limit
- cleared the serial receive buffer after a file transfer,
this may help with the problems of a D after an upload
- the download is now rejected if the caller does not have
enough time remaining
- the U option on the main menu is not shown if the caller
has selected text packets
- root directories are no longer allowed as work directories
- the contents of the environment variable NODE is used as
the extension of the work directory name
- added the ability for the user to turn off the scan for
new bulletins and/or files
- a Ctrl-C for abort scan now REALLY aborts the scan
- local logons are now handled much more nicely
Version 1.2a March 17, 1990
- users will no longer be sent personal mail in folder Y
- TOMCAT.CFG no longer needs to contain the ID= line if
a TOMCAT.ID file is present
Version 1.2 March 4, 1990
- the message database locking is now handled better when
updating message numbers and sending return receipts after
a successful transfer
- carrier is monitored during a message scan in case the user
hangs up
- in the config file, you may set the TAGLINE= variable to
NO, OFF, or NONE to suppress the ≈ Via TomCat! ... tagline
- NODEINFO.DAT is now updated on logoff to show that the user
has in fact logged off
- the number of messages downloaded is placed in the activity
log on completion of a successful download
- you may abort a scan by Ctrl-C, Ctrl-K, or Ctrl-X
- a new config option HELLO specifies which hello screens to
include in the HELLO file in the .QWK packet. There are
three entries which are handled specially:
HELLO = BIRTHDAY
includes BIRTHDAY.BBS or BIRTHDAY.SCR only if
the packet is downloaded on the user's birthday
HELLO = SEC
HELLO = QSEC
the user's security level is appended to the name
before it is used (QSEC is only sent if the user
hasn't seen it before [according to TomCat!])
All other entries are taken literally from the display
directory. Files will appear in the order listed. The
default is PRELOG, BIRTHDAY, SEC, QSEC, HELLO1 to HELLO9.
Any HELLO= entries will override all default files.
- the format of the PACKER= entry in the TOMCAT.CFG file has
changed in order to support multiple packers. The new format
is:
PACKER = P , Generic Packer , PAK , PACK a ! , UNPACK -o !
The first field (fields are separated by commas) is the
selection letter, the second field is the description
presented to the user, the third field is the standard file
extension (used for auto-identification of .REP packets),
and the fourth and fifth fields are the old PACKER= and
UNPACKER= fields.
The defaults are as follows:
PACKER = Z , PKZIP/PKUNZIP , ZIP , pkzip -es ! , pkunzip -o !
PACKER = A , PKPAK/PKUNPAK , ARC , pkpak -a ! , pkunpak -r !
PACKER = L , LHARC , LZH , lharc a ! , lharc x -m !
Any PACKER= entries will override all default settings.
Please note that you WILL get an error starting up this
version for the first time if you have an old PACKER= entry
in your .CFG file and you have not updated it. Please be
sure to test the new configuration locally!
When a reply packet is uploaded, TomCat! will attempt to
identify the packer used to create the packet. If it can't
identify it, then the user will be asked to supply the
information. Currently, TomCat! will identify the following
packers: PKZIP, PKPAK, LHARC, and ZOO.
- Wildcat! external protocols are now supported. If an external
protocol has selection letter Z, however, it will NOT be
listed since TomCat! has its own internal Zmodem transfer
routines (an external protocol with letter Z is assumed to
be Zmodem).
- there is now a [C]onfiguration menu...this is mostly just
a reorganization in preparation for some more features
- the communcations port is reinitialized on return from
an external protocol - this may solve some "lockup"
problems
- if there is only one packer choice, the question is skipped
- a bug that prevented any transfer protocols from working
when the user had a default protocol selected in their
Wildcat! settings was fixed
- a new config option EXTERNAL= specifies the external protocols
that will be available in TomCat. The default is none.
Example: EXTERNAL = BT
- a new config option NOBULL= specifies which bulletins are
NOT to be sent. The default is none.
Example: NOBULL = 26,32,55
Bulletin numbers can be separated by commas or spaces.
There should only be one NOBULL= specification, further
ones will override previous settings. All bulletins (there
may be up to 20) must all be on one line. No error message
is issued if you exceed 20 bulletins.
- the ANSIBULLS option in TOMCAT.CFG has been removed - this
information is now in the TCUSER.DAT file.
- TomCat! now exits with errorlevel 10 if the Dos-next flag
flag is set. You can then do something like
if not errorlevel 2 then cat.bat
at the end of your TOMCAT.BAT file.
- the user's transfer protocol and packer selection are now
set in the configuration menu of TomCat!
- added a user configuration option that allows them to choose
whether they want their own mail sent to them in the packet
- fixed an indexing bug with three or more word user names
Version 1.1 January 27, 1990
- Total message limit and conference message limit displayed
on the download status screen
- A new TOMCAT.CFG option "PROPELLER" turns the propeller on
the download display on or off (it's a yes/no switch, same
as the BULLETINS, NEWS, etc.)
- A file in the .QWK packet called SESSION.TXT contains a copy
of the download status screen
- ? now redisplays the menu, for users that don't have NOVICE
menus enabled, but haven't used the TomCat! system before
- ^S^W### (for who's online) in bulletins and other display
files now works
- You may put TOMCATC.HLP in the HELP directory - it is the
color version of TOMCAT.HLP
- .IMP file handling corrected (no need for .IMP extension)
- activity log times are now always hh:mm, with leading zeros
- auto logoff now waits for 10 seconds in case the user wants
to stay online
- new config option ANSIBULLS (a yes/no option) allows the
sysop to control sending of .SCR versions of bulletins and
HELLO files - defaults to NO
- new config option NETSEC (a numeric option) specifies the
minimum security level needed to upload reply packets with
messages from users other than the currently logged on
user (this is intended for message networks where messages
are tossed around via mail doors) - defaults to 1000
- network file sharing with text files is now handled properly
- new menu option "[N]ew files/bulletins date" resets the
user's new files scan date (used for both files and bulletins)
- since no mail readers can handle packets with more than
200 messages in a folder, TomCat! will now never send such
a packet
Version 1.0 January 15, 1990
- Initial release version.
